Challenge
Gedenk (Yiddish for “remember”) was founded by hip-hop violinist Miri ben Ari, after she discovered that over 50% of high school graduates in America were unaware of the Holocaust. Our task was to create a unique interactive experience that would create a direct experience for teenagers around the memory of victims of the genocide.
Solution
The flaming torch of history in the Gedenk logo (which we also designed) was expanded into an interactive memorial space. Users could explore the memorial by “flying” through the flames and reading the messages left by other users, or leave their own personal messages to the world about memory and genocide.
Impact
The memorial space was a unique and memorable experience that engaged many of the visitors to Gedenk’s site. People from the world over shared their thoughts and feelings while paying respect to the victims.
